BIOGRAPHY

Sweet Mother Logic is an innovative, genre-bending, instrumental free-for-all, colliding a rocket-powered string duet with vintage keyboards and guitar over jagged drums to produce what the Montreal Mirror described as "tightly wound with vigorous energy and engaging, original melodies" with "a penchant for wordless tale-telling." Both on stage and in the studio, Sweet Mother Logic has received universal praise from critics and listeners. The Montreal Gazette described the band's performance at last year's Pop Montreal as one of their "favourite sets of the festival so far...a sprawling vocals-free extravaganza, at turns soaring and pounding."

The Ascension Island EP can be heard extensively in the current season of the TV show "Departures" on OLN and the National Geographic Channel.

NATURAL HISTORY DESCRIPTION

Natural History is Sweet Mother Logic's second full-length album. In contrast to their previous album Sweet Mother Logic, the band took full advantage of the unique musical rapport that defines their live shows by recording in a live format, with only sparse embellishment by guest musicians. The result is a fast-moving, genre-defying adventure over 9 tracks with an unparalleled ability to blend catchy toe-tapping pop with the compositional complexity of classical music.

SWEET MOTHER LOGIC DESCRIPTION

After releasing their debut EP, Ascension Island, in 2008, Sweet Mother Logic presents its first self-titled full length album. In contrast to Ascension Island, Sweet Mother Logic  follows a narrative thread over 11 instrumental tracks, with ethereal passages giving way sinister electro aided by a small orchestra. To record the album, Sweet Mother Logic turned Montreal’s Oscar Peterson Concert Hall into an elaborate recording studio to fully capture the acoustic complexities central to their sound.

ASCENSION ISLAND DESCRIPTION

Ascension Island is Sweet Mother Logic's debut EP, released June 26, 2008. Over the four instrumental tracks, the mellow sounds of cellos are mixed with analog synths and electric guitars over jagged beats, flowing from tense chaos to melody. As the public's introduction to Sweet Mother Logic, it is also the band's introduction to the world of recording. Thus they kicked things off the old-fashioned way, and recorded and mixed the EP live off the floor onto 2" tape at the Treatment Room, one of Montreal's finest analog studios.

"Tightly wound with vigorous energy and engaging, original melodies... a penchant for wordless tale-telling and an album with a thematic thread" Rupert Bottenberg, The Mirror
